Gurudwara Nanak Jhira Sahib
- The Legend of the Spring (Nanak Jhira): When Guru Nanak and his companion Mardana arrived in the area, the residents of Bidar were suffering from an acute shortage of clean drinking water, as all wells yielded only salty, unfit water. Moved by their plight, Guru Nanak is said to have uttered “Sat Kartar,” touched a stone, and removed some rubble from the hillside with his wooden sandal (or toe). To the astonishment of everyone, a perennial spring of cool, fresh, and sweet water burst forth. The place was thus named Nanak Jhira (Jhira meaning “stream” or “spring”). The crystal-clear stream still flows from the rock to this day.
- The Amrit Kund: The water from the miraculous spring is collected in a small holy tank built opposite the front stairs of the Gurudwara, known as the Amrit Kund. Devotees take a holy dip in the tank, believing the water to have curative powers that can cleanse the body and soul of ailments and sins.
