Welcome To Bidar
The name of Bidar appears to be derived from ‘bidiru’ which means bamboo. The place seems to have been known for bamboo clusters in the past, came to be known as ‘Bidaroor’ and then ‘Bidare’, ‘Bidar’. Though there are other versions of origin, the name ‘Bidarooru’ seems to be more near one and authenticated by contemporary literary works. Bidar is a hill-top city situated on the deccan plateau, in the north-eastern part of Karnataka state in India. It is the headquarters of the Bidar District.
Bidar city is known for its Bidri handicraft products, and its rich history. Bidar is also considered one of the holiest place for Sikh pilgrimage. Unlike other places in the region, Bidar is the coldest and wettest place in north Karnataka. For the year 2009-10, Bidar was ranked 22nd among the cleanest cities in India, and 5th cleanest in Karnataka. SH4 passes through Bidar and the whole city is integrated with 4 lane road.
Gurudwara Nanak Jhira Sahib
Gurudwara Nanak Jhira Sahib, located in Bidar, Karnataka, is one of the most sacred Sikh pilgrimage sites in India. The Gurudwara is dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, who visited Bidar during his second Udasi (journey) in the 16th century. It is believed that Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed the region and miraculously brought forth fresh water from the rocks. The clear and pure water flows .
Our Vision
Bidar has a rich history as a capital city for various dynasties, including the Bahmani and Barid Shahi sultanates, and was later annexed by the Mughal Empire. Known for its fortified structures and intricate architecture, Bidar was the capital of the Bahmani Kingdom in the 15th century after Sultan Ahmed Shah Wali moved his capital there from Gulbarga. After becoming the seat of the independent Barid Shahi dynasty in 1531, it was captured by the Mughals in 1657 and formally annexed in 1686.
